With all the anti immigrant frevor in the U.S. and Europe, I thought it was important to recognize two important anniversaries in the history of the United States.  Ironic that they come so close to independence day.

On July 7 1846, the United States annexed California from Mexico.

On July 7 1898, the United States annexed Hawaii.

Annexed is one of those polite and convenient words used to cover up dire policies and acts of imperialism, oppression, racism and genocide.

Should we fire off any more firecrackers ?
