We are an organization dedicated to raising awareness about the history, culture and true lives of Romani people worldwide. We confront racism and oppression wherever we encounter it. We try to make connections with all the "isms" that make up western culture.

THIS AND THAT
Joaquin, my friend and comember of Lolo Diklo, commented that it's telling that the Romanian audience booed Madonna for her statements in behalf of the Roma, yet never booed the dancers and musicians who are Roma. Everyone loves our music, but they hate us. Where is the logic in this.
Thanks Madonna, Gogol Bordello and Trio Kolpakov.
Tony Gatlif (Latcho Drom, Gadje Dilo...) has a new film Liberte which means freedom. It tells the destiny of a Gypsy family in German occupied France in 1943.
Ellie Greenwich, who wrote such classic songs as Chapel of Love, River Deep Mountain High, and Be My Baby died Wed. of a heart attack in New York. She was 68 years old.

well being a fan of madonna,i think its great that she stood up and commented to her audience about Roma, does that make her an activist? NO, does it bring awareness? YES.Madge is pretty cool for doing so, and I will continue to buy her music. Joaquin waso Olson (joaquin amayas son)
Ah, Waso, thanks for your comments. I wondered if you were Joaquin's Waso.
I'll certainly continue to buy her music too. I'm really proud of her. So many performers use our music....and never give us a hidy ho. Ah ha.

Long time has passed, sadly it was only a fad with Madonna, the plight is still prevelent with the roma.
How totally right you are my friend.
Glad she didn't adopt a Gypsy baby.

hello went to the romani festival here in Portland, although I had a good time, it seemed to be no different than Portland's saturday market. On the plus side, it is good to see the romani culture being taken seriously...
