Well, today Barak Obama came out in support of gay marriage.
Even though I have not been one to fight for gay marriage, because I don't believe in marriage, or gays in the military, because I am opposed to the military, I still recognize this as quite a milestone.
In the 60's I received electroshock "therapy" for being gay, and in the 70's I was attacked by police on horseback for demonstrating for gay rights in New York.
Times do change.
But really, I give the credit to Joe Biden. I remember back in the 70's when he introduced a Violence Against Women bill. He was mocked at the time.
This Sunday on Face the Nation he sort of backed Obama into a corner.
I'm just saying.

I'm really glad you posted this! I was debating about posting it on We Call Ourselves Romani, but wasn't sure if I wanted to get political just yet. We can't get rid of racism, unless we also fight against all discrimination!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Lisa, for your encouragement and support.
ReplyDeleteI get nervous when I do a post like this but it must be done.
And I could not agree with you more that we need to address, confront and fight all oppressions.
As has been said so many timee, "to fight oppression anywhere is to fight oppression everywhere."
