We are an organization dedicated to raising awareness about the history, culture and true lives of Romani people worldwide. We confront racism and oppression wherever we encounter it. We try to make connections with all the "isms" that make up western culture.

I JUST COULDN'T RESIST
This is from Mother Jones.
Written by Hannah Levintova
Leading From Behind.
As Republicans pushed ever more intrusive uterus-related legislation in recent months, some of their colleagues across the aisle fired back with intentionally absurd proposals. (They don't seem so absurd to me--Morgan)
*As the Virginia state Senate debated requiring transvaginal ultrasounds for women seeking abortions, Sen Janet Howell proposed mandating rectal exams for men seeking erectile dysfuntion meds. Her amendment failed by only two votes.
*By an 8-to-4 vote, the Wilmington, Delaware City Council recognized the personhood of semen, becaues 'each egg person' and each 'sperm person' should be deemed equal in the eyes of the government.
*When a zygote parenthood bill came before the Oklahoma state Senate, Sen. Constance Johnson penned an amendment declaring that ejaculating anywhere outside a woman's vagina constitutes 'an action against an unborn child'.
*Texas state Rep Harold Dutton proposed that the state pay the college tuition or health care costs of children born to women who decide against an abortion after being required to see a sonogram image.
*Responding to a Georgia House bill banning abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, Rep. Yaumin Neal wrote a bill outlawing most vasectomies because they leave 'thousands of children...deprived of birth' Democratic lawmakers sponsored a similar bill in Missouri.
*A bill by Ohio state Sen. Ninba Turner would require men to undergo psychological screenings and stress tests before getting prescriptions for impotence drugs.
*Illinois state Rep. Kelly Cassidy proposed requiring would be Viagra users to watch a video depicting the treatment for the side effect of persistent erections. 'It's not a pretty procedure to watch'.

Like I said, I just couldn't resist.

I have to agree with you that I don't find these mirror-procedures for dudes not all that outrageous. If the conservative state legislatures truly want to enact such demeaning, insulting, unnecessary, and ridiculous procedures directed at women--such measures SHOULD be across the board. Just saying.

Oh how I appreciate you.
ReplyDeleteI know, it makes me laugh how draconian, invasive legistion against women is fine, but when it comes to men, it's considered 'ludicrous'.
What's that old expression about what's good for the goose...
I'm just saying.
