INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY AWARDS TO ROMANI/SINTI WOMEN
ROMANE ROMNJA
The Women's Initiative Romane Romnja has held on International Women's Day a day of cross-cultural encounters in the field of politics, art and music, and the Romane Romnja Award 2012th.
There was a socio-political dialogue between Roma women (Jane Simon, Elvira Ajvazi, Indira Lösbrock and others) and women from the Majority Society (Dr. Lale Akgun, Nisihiti Tesfamarin, and others).
From over 200 submissionsto intercultural painting competition of Sinti and Roma children and other children from the city of Cologne, the five best were awarded prizes. Thanks to the intercultural center FIZ in Cologne-Chorweiler and Angelika Bahls and Ute Gau, and also to the bookstore Mayerische in Cologne. Special thanks to the children, because without the coloring paintings, this exhibitionwould not have taken place.
With the Romane Romnja Award was Piroschka Triska, Jane Simon, and Elvira Ajvazi and Mrs. Burakovska honored as culturalambassadors for their long-standing involvement in politics, education and culture issuses for Sinti & Roma.
Likewise, the musical evening with the Sintizza Piroschka Triska & Roger Moreno from the musicgroup Tabor comes from the Netherlands, the violinist George Velikov from St. Petersburg and the Roma children's choir of Cologne, wasan inter-cultural exchange evening with many different cultures wholiving in Cologne.
The day was a good example to honor positive images of women and children, young people and to try to reduce tensions and prejudice. Even to enter into aDialog with the majority population, we need such and similar events on all levels, and positive public relations.
Thanks to all participants and supporters who have made this day possible and to a specially Sinti & Roma highlight in Cologne.
