Novak Djokovic didn't have to dig very far into his pocket to find a $100,000 contribution to UNICEF, the United Nations child aid organisation.
The world No. 1 and winner of around $12 million on the tennis court alone in 2011 made his gift to the Serbian chapter of the aid body as a Christmas gift.

"I hope my donation and support will help make a difference in the lives of young children throughout Serbia, especially those who have fewer opportunities to reach their full potential," said Djokovic, who has served as UNICEF's national ambassador for Serbia since August.

Djokovic, who grew up during the NATO bombings of Belgrade, specified that his money should go to help children with disabilities and from the Roma (gypsy) minority. Tens of thousands of Roma live in Serbia as refugees after the breakup of the former Yugoslavia during the 1990s Balkan conflict.

Djokovic is currently in Abu Dhabi preparing for his start at the exhibition from Thursday to Saturday in the Gulf which also features Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
